  2. This is a great video and show's the many advantages of using reusable bags. It gave a hands on demonstration of just how effective reusable bags are, and I like how the student reinforced the reasons for discontinuing the use of plastic bags. He will definitely have me thinking twice next time I go to the grocery store and need to use plastic bags!

  3. Wow, the reusable bag is much better! I am out here in spain at the moment and was wondering what I could do to get the people here in Elche to start using reusable bags instead of all the plastic ones. It's funny, people here recycle a lot because there's public recycling, but they don't really reduce their usage of plastic products.

  4. I think the reason ppl use plastic bags offered by their store is because they don't carry a fabric bag with themselves. If they shop coming from work, and they only need a few items, they're not gonna bother to carry a big tote bag. My solution is to make several bags out of silk dupioni (cheap, light, strong and colorful)that fold to a very small volume and carry them with me at all times. Organza silk is transparent and can replace produce bags. To copy a plastic bag, cut fabric along the selvedge so it will form the top edge of the bag, sew side shut with flat seam like blue jeans, iron right and left sides to form a crease, turn inside out, push each crease inward 2" or so to make folds, sew bottom of bag to catch the folds with double seam outside, iron folds flat and sew wide tape or ribbon for handles just above side creases. That's all. Do same with organza for produce bags or make bags taller without handles, even easier!

  5. If despite your efforts plastic bags keep coming in your home, instead of throwing them away one at a time and risk the harmful effects to landscape and living things, collect them in a special basket and before throwing them out make a bunch of say 6 or 7 pl. bags and knot them together. This way they won't be mistaken for food by animals and they won't fly off into trees.
